In light of recent revelations, the Royal Court organised a Day of Action to explore and challenge sexual harassment across the theatre industry. One outcome of this day was a Code of Behaviour which outlines the responsibilities organisations have towards staff, artists and the wider sector, and the measures to be undertaken to uphold them.
The Royal Court's Code of Behaviour is a hugely valuable document to organisations and individuals throughout the industry and we are grateful to Vicky Featherstone, all of the Royal Court team and contributors for their work on it. We will be adopting this Code of Behaviour and encourage our peers to do the same. You can read the code in full here.
'We are grateful to the Royal Court for producing this Code of Behaviour. We believe that the theatre belongs to the people, a place where they are free to express themselves with confidence and imagination. We are committed to creating a culture that empowers people and where abuse of power is never accepted and always challenged. That an esteemed institution like the Royal Court is taking the lead is invaluable and I sincerely hope it’ll make a lasting impact in changing the culture for good.'
